How Much Does a Low-Cost Cat Vaccine Clinic Charge? From $15 in Washoe County to $59 at a Regular Clinic, Before the $65 Exam

A routine cat vaccine visit can cost less than a pizza or more than a car payment, and the difference often has nothing to do with the vaccine. Published price lists for nonprofit and county vaccine clinics in 2026 put a one-year rabies shot anywhere from $10 to $30, and a distemper combination (FVRCP) shot from free to $25. At an ordinary full-service clinic the same two shots can cost $59 before the exam fee is added. This guide compares what five programs publish, what each leaves out, and how to total your own bill.

What five published price lists show

These are the cat prices each organization lists on its own page. Programs change prices and dates often, so treat the table as a snapshot and confirm before you book.

  • Asheville Humane Society (North Carolina), September 24, 2026 clinic: rabies one year $10, rabies three year $15, FVRCP $15, microchip $15
  • Washoe County Regional Animal Services (Nevada): rabies $15, FVRCP free (the page credits Petco Love), microchip free for county residents and $31 for non-residents
  • Humane Colorado (June 2026 clinics): FVRCP $25, rabies $20, microchip $25 including registration
  • Humane Society of Huron Valley (Michigan): FVRCP $20, one-year rabies $30, three-year Purevax rabies $70, feline leukemia vaccine $30, FeLV/FIV test $30, microchip $20
  • Longmont Humane Veterinary Clinic (Colorado), regular clinic list updated July 16, 2026: FVRCP $26, leukemia vaccine $30, one-year rabies $33, three-year rabies $39, wellness exam $65, microchip $44

The first four are vaccine-clinic prices. The last is the nonprofit's regular veterinary clinic, included so you can see how much the setting changes the number.

Totaling the two core shots

Most adult cats need two things at a basic visit: rabies and the FVRCP combination. These totals are my own arithmetic from the lists above, using the one-year rabies price and leaving out any optional extras.

  • Washoe County: $15 rabies + $0 FVRCP = $15
  • Asheville: $10 + $15 = $25
  • Humane Colorado: $20 + $25 = $45
  • Huron Valley: $30 + $20 = $50, though the page also lists a rabies and distemper combination at $30
  • Longmont regular clinic: $33 + $26 = $59, or $124 with the $65 wellness exam

For the full picture of what each shot costs at a standard clinic, see our guide to cat vaccination costs and schedules.

Why a clinic visit costs so much more

The Longmont list shows the pattern clearly. The vaccines themselves are $26 and $33, but the wellness exam is $65, which is more than the two vaccines combined. A vaccine clinic is built to do one job quickly: it gives the shot and does not examine the cat. That is why its price can be a fraction of a clinic visit. It is also why it is a fit for a healthy adult cat that already has a vet, and a poor fit for a cat that has not been examined in years or that is showing symptoms. For a view of what an exam costs elsewhere, see our breakdown of vet exam fees.

Deposits, carriers and other conditions

Low prices usually come with rules, and some of them affect cost. Washoe County and Huron Valley both ask for a $10 deposit per pet to hold an appointment. Washoe says it is non-refundable and counts toward the total, and forfeited deposits go to its Injured Animal Fund. Huron Valley says the deposit is applied to your balance but is non-refundable if you miss the appointment. Huron Valley also requires every cat to arrive in a carrier. Longmont's regular clinic charges $32.50 if you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, and it serves only households where all pets over six months old are spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has granted a medical exemption. Asheville says a negative heartworm test is required to buy heartworm prevention, a rule it applies to all pets including cats.

One-year or three-year rabies: read the fine print

Asheville lists the three-year rabies shot at $15, only $5 more than the one-year dose. Longmont charges $33 versus $39. Huron Valley lists $30 for one year and $70 for the three-year Purevax, a larger gap. The cheaper multi-year dose can look like the obvious choice, but whether a cat is eligible depends on its vaccination history and on local rules, so ask the clinic which product it uses and what your local ordinance accepts. Do not assume a price comparison alone settles the question.

Microchips are the surprise line item

Several of these programs sell microchips at the same visit. The range in the five lists is wide: free for Washoe County residents, $15 in Asheville, $20 at Huron Valley, $25 at Humane Colorado, and $44 at Longmont's regular clinic. Washoe charges non-residents $31. Humane Colorado says its price includes registration, so confirm whether registration is included wherever you go. Our guide to microchip costs explains the implant and registry fees separately.

Feline leukemia: the add-on that comes with a test

Huron Valley lists the Purevax feline leukemia vaccine at $30 and says it requires proof of a negative test within the past month, with the FeLV/FIV test itself at $30. Longmont's regular list shows the leukemia vaccine at $30. If you are unsure whether your cat needs it, the test-plus-vaccine total at Huron Valley is $60, so the real cost of this add-on is higher than the vaccine price alone suggests.

How to price your own visit

Write down the vaccines your cat is actually due for, then add any deposit, exam fee and microchip charge. If you are also weighing county license fees, our guide to cat license costs shows how those differ by city. Compare each program's total, not its headline shot price, and ask whether a rabies certificate is issued on the spot, since licensing and boarding often require one.

Questions to ask before you go

  • Is the price per vaccine, or a package?
  • Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?
  • Does the cat need a carrier, and does the clinic require proof of a prior rabies vaccination?
  • Is an exam included, or is the clinic vaccines only?
  • Does the microchip price include registration?

This guide is about costs only, not veterinary advice. Prices were taken from each organization's published list in 2026 and can change at any time. Confirm current prices, dates and eligibility directly with the clinic, and ask your own veterinarian which vaccines your cat needs.
